Dear Orindans,

Orinda Watch desperately needs your help to defeat pending legislation SB-50 that will be heard in the Senate Governance & Finance Committee Meeting on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. However, in order to be on record, you need to send your email on or before Wednesday, April 17, 2019 to the person/address below.

Orinda Watch presented a Town Hall on 3/28/2019 at the Orinda Library Auditorium to educate Orinda citizens on the impact of SB-50 on Orinda should it become law. If you missed this Town Hall and wish to see the video, please view the Town Hall video here:

EASY One Step - Please take action NOW

Email your opposition to SB-50 to the following consultant who will analyze the bill in the Senate Governance and Finance Committee:

Anton Favorini-Csorba: Email: anton.favorini-csorba@sen.ca.gov

Subject line: Oppose SB50

Letter content: doesn’t matter - get your opposition on record and get others to do the same. Below is a letter we used at the Town Hall meeting on 3/28 that many attendees at the Town Hall signed. Please consider using/modifying this one or just cut/paste this simple letter to an email under your own name:

"Dear State Senator,

Senate Bill SB50 will destroy single family neighborhoods to make way for tall, high density luxury housing. This bill will undermine not only the integrity of cities and counties, but strip residents of their opportunity to engage in the meaningful give-and-take process of planning and community-building based on local need with their local government. In exchange for including a small number of affordable units in their towers, we will watch as luxury housing developers will usurp local authority over zoning and planning.

Also, the vast majority of jobs are created in the big cities. Why are the big cities coercing small towns and cities to give them revenue to solve the problems big cities created?

It makes sense to build housing where the workers are. It does not make sense to build housing far away from the work place (like in the suburban areas) that requires over loading our mass transit to get the workers to their job sites in the big cities and in the process destroy small city neighborhoods.

This one-size-fits-all SB50 legislation is the wrong solution for California.

Please kill SB 50.

Thank you
